Battle Overview
On December 13, 1862, the Army of the Potomac struck the entrenched Army of Northern Virginia guarding the Richmond Road (connecting Washington D. C. to Richmond, Virginia in the hills just south of the town of Fredericksburg, Virginia. In spite of a 30,000 man numerical superiority, the Army of the Potomac was soundly defeated.
